Journal:: darling, let's be adventurers

I think there's a small part of every girl that dreams of getting married in her childhood backyard. Surrounded by the trees you planted as little seedlings, walking through the same grass barefoot, seeing mom's face through the kitchen window, embedded in the lifetime of memories you created and carry with you...even as a grown adult. The scents, the familiarity, the comfort, the everything about the place that is you.

This precious backyard wedding is the perfect embodiment of childhood meets sophistication. Mike and Camille wanted to keep their lovefest homegrown, they even worked some family recipes into the menu by serving "mama’s kale soup and his fathers homemade bread!"  Their wedding was a true depiction of what matters most to the couple: each other, the great outdoors, family, and friends. A beautiful night under the stars, enveloped in nothing but love.

Sometimes simplicity is the sweetest thing, don't you think?

Things I love about this backyard bash:

That it's in a backyard. That it's in a backyard with a lemon tree (see below). The vegetables in the bride's bouquet and centrepieces. The uber warm outdoor lighting. The proposal (road trip, hello!) The simple and stunning signs. The cake, that the Camille's 16 year old sister made!

For the record, I begged my dad to get married in our backyard. He wasn't having any of it. If your father is much the same as mine, don't give up on your backyard wedding dream! Instead, discover a park, field, or big wide open space to recreate the same emotion and natural love vibes of a backyard.

happy planning!
